| Remote and Rural
locations suffer from the lack of reliable electrical
energy. It becomes necessary to implement diesel
generators that will need to operate at high duty
cycles for extended periods of time. The total
costs associated from the installation, operation
and maintenance of diesel generators is very high
and will continue to rise.
One of the uncertainties related to diesel generator
power is the cost and availability of fuel. With
the constant changes in social, political and
world events, the price and availability of fuel
is in constant motion. On average, the price of
diesel is always increasing. Thus the cost of
operation is never fixed and predictable. A second
problem with diesel generated power is the reliability
and maintenance of the equipment. The higher the
duty cycle, the more maintenance that is required.
A third problem is logistics for fuel and spare
parts delivery. In the end, the dependence on
diesel power is not a desirable choice. A very
reliable option is the implementation of alternative
energy systems such as solar and wind.
